Terms of Service

These Terms of Service (“Terms”) govern your use of Martypex (“the App”), developed and published by Caffeinated Math, an umbrella of HJJB, LLC (“we,” “us,” or “our”).
By downloading, installing, or using the App, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, please do not use the App.
1. About Martypex
Martypex is an iOS-first universal application (iPhone and iPad, iOS 26+) built with SwiftUI. The App allows you to:
- Write Typst and Markdown documents directly on your iPhone or iPad
- Compile Typst and Markdown entirely on-device, with no server or internet connection required for compilation
- Preview compiled PDFs with a live, paginated viewer
- Organize multi-file projects using the Files app and iCloud Drive
- Export PDFs (free tier: watermarked; Pro: watermark-free)
- Export PNG, SVG, and DPI-customized images (Pro only)
Martypex is available as a free download with a one-time Pro in-app purchase. There is no subscription.
The word “Typst” is used in these Terms and in the App solely as a descriptive reference to the Typst document language. Martypex is not affiliated with or endorsed by the Typst project or its maintainers. “Martypex” is a trademark pending registration.
2. Eligibility
You must be at least 18 years old to use the App. By using the App, you represent that you meet this requirement. The App does not contain adult content; this requirement exists to avoid any risk regarding data from minors. The App does not collect any user data as all document processing and storage happens entirely on your device.
3. License
We grant you a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to use the App for personal or professional purposes, subject to these Terms and the Apple EULA.
You may not:
- Reverse engineer, decompile, or disassemble the App
- Redistribute, sell, or sublicense the App
- Use the App for any unlawful purpose
- Remove or alter any proprietary notices
Apple is a third-party beneficiary of this license and the Apple EULA governs your use of the App as distributed through the Apple App Store.
4. Your Content
You retain full ownership of all Typst and Markdown documents, files, images, bibliography files, and any other content you create using the App. We do not claim any rights to your content.
Your content is stored locally on your device and is not transmitted to our servers. You are solely responsible for the content you create and for ensuring it complies with applicable laws.
5. Pro Purchase
The Pro in-app purchase is a one-time, non-consumable purchase. It is not a subscription.
What Pro unlocks:
- Watermark-free PDF export
- PNG, SVG, and DPI-customized image export
- Customizable editor color themes
- Personal snippet library for reusable Typst and Markdown blocks
Family Sharing: Pro supports Family Sharing, allowing eligible family members to access the Pro features.
Restore Purchases: If you reinstall the App or use it on a new device, use Settings → Restore Purchases to re-enable your Pro entitlement without paying again.
Free tier: The free tier always exports PDFs with a watermark. All other free-tier features remain available regardless of Pro status.
Refunds: Refunds are available only as required by Apple or applicable law. Contact Apple Support for refund requests.
6. Third-Party Open-Source Components
The App incorporates open-source components, including:
- Typst (Apache-2.0): document compilation engine
- comrak (BSD-2-Clause): CommonMark/GFM Markdown parsing
- mitex (Apache-2.0): LaTeX math to Typst math conversion
- Runestone (MIT): text editor core
- Libertinus Fonts (OFL-1.1): bundled font set
These components are acknowledged in Settings → About → Acknowledgments. Each component is used in accordance with its respective open-source license.
7. Privacy
Your use of the App is also governed by our Privacy Policy, which describes how we handle information. In short, all document compilation happens on your device and we do not collect your document content.
8. Disclaimer of Warranties
THE APP IS PROVIDED “AS IS” WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND. WE DISCLAIM ALL WARRANTIES, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, AND NON-INFRINGEMENT.
We do not warrant that:
- The App will meet your requirements
- The App will be uninterrupted or error-free
- The Typst or Markdown compilation results will be accurate or reliable for all documents
9. Limitation of Liability
TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, WE SHALL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES ARISING FROM YOUR USE OF THE APP.
Our total liability shall not exceed the amount you paid for the App (including the Pro purchase, if applicable).
10. Indemnification
You agree to indemnify and hold harmless HJJB, LLC and its officers, directors, and employees from any claims arising from your use of the App or violation of these Terms.
11. Changes to Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. Material changes will be communicated through App Store update notes. Continued use of the App after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms.
12. Termination
We reserve the right to revoke your license to use the App, remove the App from the App Store, or discontinue the App at any time for conduct that violates these Terms.
13. Apple App Store
You acknowledge that these Terms are between you and HJJB, LLC, not Apple. Apple has no obligation to provide maintenance or support for the App. Apple is a third-party beneficiary of these Terms and may enforce them against you. For any complaints about the App, contact us at support@caffeinatedmath.com. Your use of the App is also subject to the Apple Media Services Terms and Conditions.
14. Governing Law
These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Arkansas, United States, without regard to conflict of law principles.
